The Parade of Playhouses debuted at the 2025 NRV Home Expo to great success.​

The NRVHBA works with two of our builder members who have designed, constructed, and donated two custom built playhouses to be displayed and auctioned off at the NRV Home Expo.
​
Proceeds from the two playhouses will directly benefit the NRVHBA Constructing Careers Grant Program, which provides funding for special projects and/or materials within elementary and secondary classrooms that align with the workforce development interests of the home building and construction industry. This program can provide the opportunity for teachers to enhance their curriculum, maximize opportunities for their students, and encourage interest in construction trades careers.

Since the program began in the Fall of 2023, the NRVHBA Grant Program has provided over $20,000 to our area schools!​​

Ridge and Root Garden Haus
The Ridge & Root Garden House is a charming custom-built playhouse measuring 6’ x 6’ with an 8’ peak height, designed to bring imagination and outdoor play to life. Constructed with durable treated lumber and finished with an oil-based stain, this structure is built to withstand the elements while maintaining a warm, rustic appearance. The playhouse features a galvanized metal roof for long-lasting protection and a clear Lexan window panel with UV protective coating to allow natural light while reducing sun exposure. An operable door and upper window panel add ventilation and interactive charm, making it a perfect backyard retreat for young adventurers.

The Surf Shack
Surf’s up with The Surf Shack, a charming custom playhouse built and donated by Habitat for Humanity of the New River Valley and the Virginia Tech Habitat student chapter. This beach‑inspired backyard retreat features a 6' x 8' play space with a cozy 2' x 6' front porch—perfect for little adventurers to imagine seaside days. The roof is made from semi‑transparent corrugated polycarbonate panels that block UV rays while letting in 35% natural light, creating a bright and breezy feel inside. Screened windows and a screened front door keep the air flowing, while the structure rests on three sturdy 8‑foot 4x4 skids for easy placement. The Surf Shack is a one‑of‑a‑kind playhouse that brings coastal charm and creativity right to your backyard.
