The Parade of Playhouses brings creativity and craftsmanship together for a good cause. Designed and built by builders, students, and community volunteers, each playhouse is a reflection of imagination, collaboration, and hands-on experience.
This program provides funding for special projects and materials within elementary and secondary classrooms that align with the workforce development interests of the home building and construction industry. It aims to enhance learning experiences by supporting hands-on projects that teach relevant skills such as carpentry, masonry, plumbing, and electrical work. The goal is to foster early interest and provide real-world experiences.
Schools throughout the New River Valley apply by submitting a detailed proposal, with funding awarded based on the project’s potential impact and alignment with program goals.
“It gave our students in Technical Drawing and Design a chance to learn more about architectural design and construction as well as get hands-on practice.”“This hands-on experience was incredible. They learned fundamental construction skills and saw their work become a permanent part of our stage setup.”“The project allowed us to discuss work of other contractors and how electrical rough-in work impacted their role in residential construction.”
Meet the Builders
Designed with both outdoor living and imagination in mind, this custom-built playhouse offers young adventurers and their families a functional, beautiful space to enjoy together.
This project was inspired by the need for outdoor living and experiences in the New River Valley. Spring is a great time for families to spend time outdoors together. This greenhouse/playhouse is a great way for young families to start a garden together and teach the next generation about the importance of spending time outdoors.
The playhouse/greenhouse dual-use is designed to appeal to both kids and adults by blending the project into a family friendly space that meets the needs of many.
The playhouse donation is an honor to be a part of for the impact it allows us to have on our community. The proceeds will be donated to help additional education efforts and provide an opportunity to equip a member of our community with a space designed and built with care.
A charming custom playhouse built and donated by Habitat for Humanity of the New River Valley and the Virginia Tech Habitat for Humanity Campus Chapter, this beach-inspired backyard retreat creates a playful, welcoming place where children can imagine, play, and create wonderful memories.
Our goal was to create a playhouse that sparks imagination while reflecting the idea of home. The project united students and community volunteers to design something playful, welcoming, and well-built.
Projects like this enable our team and student volunteers to expand their creativity while working together on something meaningful. It’s an honor to support a program that encourages community creativity and local ideas.
Community Impact
The Parade of Playhouses supports projects that strengthen the community while fostering the next generation of skilled tradespeople. Partnerships with volunteers, community members, and students help make this mission possible.
Grant applications are accepted in the first quarter of each year, with starter grant applications available on a rolling basis.
